Saturday, August 30, 2008 -  9:20 PM  I find that Irish bands have a knack for coming up with solid contemporary soulful music, with matching sombre lyrics as well. And The Script just joins the list of bands that include U2 and Boomtown Rats. And don't forget the Corrs as well, traditional Irish tunes repackaged into modern pop-fare. I'm addicted to We Cry right now. Very sombre lyrics, full of pessimism (just my cup of tea). And there's this verse which i particularly like - "I'm sick of looking for those heroes in the sky to teach us how to fly" Hahaha. I find it very amusing, yet very thought-provoking as well.  Together we cry... Together we cry... Jenny was a poor girl Living in a rich world Named her baby Hope when she was just fourteen She was hoping for a better world For this little girl But the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree Well she gets that call Hope's too far gone Her baby's on the way But nothing left inside Together we cry! On a side note, i have been following the ping-pong fiasco and I am quite disappointed by the lack of any intelligent and mature discussion by the general public (online or in the print media). Both online and offline feedback appear to be nothing more than mere rants against foreign talent and other xenophobic banalities that Singaporeans have grown fond of. I will wait for the dust to settle before blogging my own views on the subject, since Vivian Balakrishnan has so un-subtly told the nation to drop the matter and stop debating about this. |
